FIREBAUGH, Fresno County — October 25, 2026. Families who work in agriculture or have difficulty paying housing costs can find a centralized starting point on the City of Firebaugh’s Housing Resources page. The municipality lists farmworker housing financing, rental voucher assistance, home-repair resources and other services. These programs are administered by different agencies, so availability and eligibility need to be confirmed with the responsible organization.
Farmworker housing: financing is not the same as a personal check
The city highlights California’s Joe Serna, Jr. Farmworker Housing Grant and federal USDA Sections 514 and 516 programs. These can support development, acquisition, rehabilitation or improvement of housing for agricultural workers through eligible public agencies, nonprofit developers or other qualified sponsors. A program that helps a housing developer finance an apartment complex should not be advertised as cash that any farmworker can obtain directly on demand.
Help with the rent
The city’s housing directory identifies the Housing Choice Voucher program, often called Section 8, administered locally by Fresno Housing. When a household is eligible and receives a voucher, a portion of rent is paid by the household and assistance is paid to the landlord under program rules. The household generally locates an eligible private-market unit and that property must meet required housing standards. Waiting lists, application windows, income rules and availability are controlled by Fresno Housing, not by California58 or the mere existence of the directory.
What should applicants verify?
Before sharing personal documents with anyone, applicants should establish that they are using an authentic government or recognized program-operator website. Check household-size income limits, residency requirements, waiting-list announcements, property eligibility and whether assistance is currently open. No person should pay an unverified third party to guarantee a Section 8 voucher or access to public funding.
Home repair, energy efficiency and flood information
The city also points residents to repair and energy-related resources and FEMA floodplain mapping. These have different purposes: an energy-efficiency assistance program does not automatically cover structural repairs, and a flood map is not a current flood warning. Residents in rental housing may also need to discuss safety or maintenance responsibilities with their landlord or relevant housing agency.
Where to start
The official city directory links to participating agencies; Fresno Housing is the source to consult about its rental assistance process. Firebaugh City Hall is located at 1133 P Street, telephone 559-659-2043. This guide is intended to help residents distinguish programs, not promise a grant or a particular placement.
